Laura James's Wifflings

This is just a place for things that I think it might be useful to write down and put somewhere.

Today, we think a mysterious overnight power surge demolished our network, ate a couple of sockets and rebooted most of the PCs, and left us very confused when we got in this morning. Obviously this is the penalty for getting in too early - the first two of us to arrive didn't have lab keys either, so were waiting on the landing for a while. All seems to be OK now though.

Frappucino...

Today I found out that the application form I filled out for my EPSRC grant and Industrial CASE top-up is now invalid, and I need to do a different one. It was valid a month ago, but now the system has changed, and I must redo the thing. Of course, the new form isn't available yet...

Had my hair cut this morning! A very invigorating experience. I should do it more often, and usually intend to, but the time between cuts always stretches out to 2 months whatever I do. I feel smug in any case today, because I spotted a spelling (or a typo?) on Quentin's blog - and in the Episode Two bit too, shocking.

Sad to notice that Pret a Manger no longer seem to do Coronation Chicken. However, All Day Breakfast still exists, and there is a new Roast Beef with Crispy Onions which looks fun. Their salads look better than they used to, as well. I was vaguely intending to go to Pret today anyway, so I wasn't overly distressed to be forced to dodge into it, away from the strange black and orange people who were trying to give cans of Tango away. Obviously student grants are at an all time low, if they can be persuaded to push little carts around town wearing such silly outfits for a big company - for Rag Week such behaviour would be much more acceptable.
