Laura James's Wifflings

This is just a place for things that I think it might be useful to write down and put somewhere.

The CDC Ball last night was wonderful, and the team demos were amazing as usual (although somewhat intimidating!). Lots of silver and purple balloons decorating the Guildhall, very reminiscent of the set we did for a Midsummer Night's Dream in the 6th form.

Today I am trying to deal with being half-asleep by eating lots of cake. I can't tell if my strategy isn't working or if I'm just not eating enough cakes. The gloom (although at least not rain, right now) outside isn't helping much.

Currants: another odd foodstuff. Why aren't they raisins? Does anyone ever eat them in a non- black-and-crispy form?

*Poing* Ball soon! Will not be as glittery as might be generally good, but then should not scatter glitter all over unsuspecting dancers. ;-)

Game over. I guess that makes it time to write up the rest of it, then...

I just realised I didn't post the end of the Sainsburys delivery saga...

So all Monday I wait, no call. Give up, but do not call them. Decide to have bath at 8:45pm. Get into bath, just begin to settle down, bang on door. 3rd bang, leave bath, get dressng gown, soak slippers by dripping in them, get to door- Sainsburys! 8:55, so just within the 7-9pm slot the guy said the delivery was scheduled for. This time he did not get lost but had come from - da da da dum - Luton. Anyway, he seemed OK about coming that far. Apparently the nearest delivery store to here will shortly be Peterborough, which will be opening soon. 2nd try at bath was OK except for damp slippers and dressing gown afterwards.

Some enterprising person has set up a petition to encourage the government to realise that broadband is increasingly essential to a thriving economy, and to Do Something About It.

There was a lovely crisp frost this morning on the Backs. By the time I got to John's it was just a bit too late to be really pretty though.

This weekend has mainly been spent keeping Sainsburys on their toes. They gave me a free delivery voucher, so they deserve it really. How could I resist? On the one previous occasion when they delivered, they arrived at the end of the two hour window, and the delivery guy was very flustered, because he'd been dispatched from Huntingdon with no maps, and once he'd got to Cambridge he said he'd kept calling in to get directions to my flat, but 'they' kept telling him it was right on Madingley Road... So this time on Saturday I was rather looking forward to seeing if they'd give him a map; but he didn't turn up. 4 hours after the end of the alloted time I got a phone call, and my voicemail recorded the memorable phrase "we have lost the van but he should be there within the hour". This was followed by a second message, 20 minutes later, asking me to call and reschedule the delivery. I called them before 10:30pm as instructed, hoping that Monday night would be OK, but they then said to call again the next day before 6:30pm because the computer wouldn't let them in. I called at 4pm, and after a little surprise at being asked for a security word (and then being told its first letter, before I had a chance to think about it), unlike on Saturday, determined that they couldn't schedule anything because "the store isn't there" and so couldn't answer their call. So they promised to call me today... It's still today, but it's getting later.
